Trump wants to put more money into Social Security by taking back money we are sending to other countries. Trump has also said he does not want to raise the retirement age.
“We have incompetent people they put people in charge that have no clue what they’re doing. It needs money we have to make our country rich again so we can do that so we can save Social Security because I’m not a cutter. I’ll probably be the only republican that doesn’t want to cut Social Security. I’m not a cutter of Social Security. I want to make the country rich so that Social Security can be afforded and Medicare and Medicaid. Get rid of the waste, get rid of the fraud, but you deserve your Social Security. You’ve been paying your Social Security and I like Congressman Ryan; I like a lot of the people that are talking about cutting Social Security. And by the way the democrats are eating your lunch on this issue. It’s an issue that you’re not going to win. You’ve got to make the country rich again and strong again so that you can afford it and so you can afford military and all of the other things.”
Pelley posed the question to Trump by first mentioning Trump’s book “The America We Deserve” asking Trump if the candidate still wanted to raise the Social Security retirement age to 70. Trump answered, "No, I don't think we should do that anymore. I want to take back money we are sending to other countries that want to kill us, and without increases, and we are not going to raise the Social Security age."
Clinton is against privatizing social security and wants to expand benefits for the poor.
DANA BASH: Secretary Clinton the question was not just about tuition though. It was about Senator Sanders plan to expand Social Security, to make Medicare available to all Americans. Is that something that you would support and if not why not?
HILLARY CLINTON: Well I fully support Social Security. And the most important fight we’re going to have is defending it against continuing republican efforts to privatize it.
BASH: Do you want to expand it?
CLINTON: I want to enhance the benefits for the poorest recipients of Social Security. We have a lot of women on Social Security, particularly widowed and single women who didn’t make a lot of money during their careers and they are impoverished. And they need more help from the Social Security system and I will focus on helping those people who need it the most and of course I’m going to defend Social Security. I’m going to look for ways to try to make sure it’s solvent into the future and we also need to talk about health care at some time because we agree on the goals we just disagree on the means.
